hello and welcome to 60 seconds with Sergio I am your host Sergio cabanas attorney-at-law president owner and founder of the cabanas law firm thank you for joining me today how is child-support calculated often a very touchy subject what happens is that there’s generally two important factors that the courts look at in determining child support first is the amount of time sharing each spouse is to have with the children for example the parent that has more time sharing would likely incur more expenses on behalf of the child versus the other parent who is spending
very little time with the child the parent that’s spending the
more time would be entitled to more of the child support than the parent that does not the other factor of course are the relative incomes of the parties and all of this information the time sharing arrangement plus the incomes of the parties is put into a computer system that lawyers use that would then automatically calculate the child support that one or the other spouses to pay the other pursuant to these general guidelines so whenever in doubt consult an attorney who can then properly calculate these things for you again assuming you determine what the time sharing arrangement will be and the relative incomes of both parties in a divorce thank you for watching 60 seconds with Sergio please remember that the purpose of these videos is to provide some general guidance over some commonly asked important areas of the law that are often complex even for our attorneys so there’s no substitute for you to personally meet with an attorney on a one-on-one consultation who can review all of the information of your case and explain how the specific laws apply in your case thank you for watching and good luck.
