Hello and welcome to 60 seconds with Sergio. I am your host Sergio Cabaniss, Attorney at Law here in Florida. Thank you for joining me today. Today’s question is Sergio, I have children with my ex partner whom I never married. However, that person has received government stimulus payments and refusing to share any of that money with me. But wait a minute, I’m a parent too.
Am I not entitled to my fair share of the stimulus payments? Well, the short answer is maybe a lot depends on whether or not you are entitled to the child tax credit for the year that the stimulus payments are being paid for and whether there was any type of paternity action or other agreement indicate who was entitled to that child tax credit.
If you find yourself in this situation, you should consult an attorney to consider whether or not you should file a paternity action or if one was filed, whether or not you can pursue this kind of relief within the paternity action. I hope this video provides you with some guidance over a very hot topic that’s trending right now. Stimulus payments. Thank you again for joining me today. And as always, stay informed so you can stay strong.
